Just a little preview of the new site, for all you lovers of free things you don’t have to pay for…
Should be live in a week or so, depending on the gods of CMS development.

ItalTek, in my opinion, is not only a great producer, but also embraces the idea that free music and paid music can live side by side without great stress. In testament to that (If you don’t already know his amazing Net-Lab releases), here is the new homepage for his self-publishing label AtomRiver, featuring a free download of Lightning Fields as well as links to buy the physical and MP3 releases (below).
So show your support for the Emo Junglist!

When I landed on Osalt, I thought, “Yeah this is cool… I can grab some free appz until I can afford to trade up…” but amazingly (perhaps only for me), I am now slowly but surely bumping all my commercial appz out of the picture and replacing them with these open source alternatives (For example, Open will now be developed in Aptana Studio {and the unbelievably versatile Notepad ++} instead of Dreamweaver). What really amazes me about the current state of open source applications is, well, how good (as opposed to adequate) they actually are. Okay, so some aren’t perfect and some are downright non-runners (avoid Songbird, the iTunes alternative built on the Mozilla platform) and some user experience design touches wouldn’t go amiss, but overall, it’s very difficult to fault these apps in comparrison to commercial rivals.
Check it yeah!
Perhaps I’m the only person in the world who cares, but I’m so delighted that we’ve hit such an awesome milestone already. I had planned to do this for the 1000th visitor, but it’s just flown up!
Keep em peeled for more awesome free music, that’s free and you don’t have to pay for, cos it’s free releases this weekend…
Barry
Not Free music but hey,
This guy is so fucking awesome, every day I go back and there’s new tunes on here. I tried to get one of his tunes for a Primer, but I was well beaten to it. Heavy military spec metal.
Highlights be the Mr Oizo remix, Inspector Dub & Tango Down!
Peace!!

..and Open Music gets a shout-out! Cheers Jimmy!
“Previously you’ve released music through the Jamendo webspace but recently you joined the Open Music Net Label, do you hope to gain a little more exposure from working with them?
Net-labels are good for hearing great music you never would have heard before, for free. If you listen to the open music compilation ‘Primer Vol.1’, you will hear a wide variety of quality music by people who probably would have never appeared on a compilation together otherwise. Discovering new people who are on a similar wavelength, that’s the idea I like most about being involved with Open Music I suppose.”
Here’s a video of Jimmy scratching with Naive Ted at the Community Skratch Games last summer here in Brighton. Open Music crew loved up the sunshine. Yuh!
I approached Lorn on a blag. Blown away by Running Ink on his myspace, I had hoped to snag it for the upcoming Primer 02. Little did we realise that he was down with a full length release, and just like that, the unbelievably slick 7&13 EP drop on our laps. A more american take on the same cut-up collage super-compressed hardness as Glitch Mob [featuring edIT Planet MU] french hard clipper Mr. Oizo and our own Syl Kougai. Very exciting.
Watch the skies!

After nearly 8 years and 50 releases, old man free label Autoplate, the noise / ambient / non / other sub-label of renowned open sourcers Thinner, is sadly taking a permanent snooze. Roll through the archives for some quality musics and some pretty unque animated ‘covers’. Also worth checking out from the Thinner is Thinnerism, a music blog in the same spirit as our Disussions section. Check it!
Well done to all involved; you’ve left a great project behind.
Here’s a few Open favourites.
Mikel over at INQ, the authority on open source music labels in my opinion, gave us a great write-up on their blog. You can also find a feed on our home page collecting the best of net-label releases, as earmarked by INQ. Hopefully we’ll see Open releases listed there too.
Thanks to Mikel for his valuable input into the early design process and opinions on what Open could be.
Check it here!
For some crazy reason, our forst Primer compilation was giving us lots of trouble, so I had to take down the release temporarily, fix the pack and reupload, which took much too long! It’s all safe again, repacked and tagged and tested for junk.
Rush over and grab it, like, right now!
Huge throbbing erect thanks to David from the RE crew, John, Jimmy and the collective beasts of Armand Tansarian for the bonus tracks! They are beasts!
Keep an eye out for Primer 02, coming soon!

Personally, I’m sick of myspace’s slow clunky nature as compared with, well, pretty much any social space that exists. But at last, it seems, Tom & company have decided to up the ante, launching Profile 2.0 a brand new page profile manager that makes it all seem a little more pro. With this is mind, I decided to update our own profile and make it all a little sexier.
So here it is. OpenMusic on MySpace. Add us today and help spread the word to your friends.
Much love,
The Open Music team.
While uncovering a series of increasingly exquisite relics, the mouth of an enormous ancient well is discovered, barely visible at first through the dense vegetation. Peering down, the shaft begins to rotate slowly and far below a collection of unidentified stones create a constantly shifting display of coloured patterns on its mirrored walls. The chiming jewels seem to sing as they are turned over and the temptation to descend to the bottom is too great to resist. Once the floor is reached the opening above is sealed shut - and there you remain.
We’re excited to announce that the Super Extra Bonus Party remix album Appetite for Reconstruction, featuring OpenMusic favourites DeadFader, 2Bit & Decal is now available as a FREE digital download!
The Choice Music Prize winning eponymously-titled debut album has been remixed by 16 different artists including Cadence Weapon, Jape, Decal, Deep Burial, The Vinny Club, Ambulance, T-Woc, Ed Devane and many more.
The digital download is served by a website called Bandcamp that allows us to offer a feast of formats namely lossy MP3 128/320, AAC, Ogg Vorbis and lossless audiophile-friendly formats AIFF and FLAC.
