The Hideous Penguin interviewed in Analogue

..and Open Music gets a shout-out! Cheers Jimmy!
Previously you’ve released music through the Jamendo webspace but recently you joined the Open Music Net Label, do you hope to gain a little more exposure from working with them?

Net-labels are good for hearing great music you never would have heard before, for free. If you listen to the open music compilation ‘Primer Vol.1’, you will hear a wide variety of quality music by people who probably would have never appeared on a compilation together otherwise. Discovering new people who are on a similar wavelength, that’s the idea I like most about being involved with Open Music I suppose.

Farewell to Autoplate

Day of the Dead

After nearly 8 years and 50 releases, old man free label Autoplate, the noise / ambient / non / other sub-label of renowned open sourcers Thinner, is sadly taking a permanent snooze. Roll through the archives for some quality musics and some pretty unque animated ‘covers’. Also worth checking out from the Thinner is Thinnerism, a music blog in the same spirit as our Disussions section. Check it!

Well done to all involved; you’ve left a great project behind.

Open Music gets a great write up on INQ Mag

Mikel over at INQ, the authority on open source music labels in my opinion, gave us a great write-up on their blog. You can also find a feed on our home page collecting the best of net-label releases, as earmarked by INQ. Hopefully we’ll see Open releases listed there too.

Thanks to Mikel for his valuable input into the early design process and opinions on what Open could be.

    Primer 01 is now live!

For some crazy reason, our forst Primer compilation was giving us lots of trouble, so I had to take down the release temporarily, fix the pack and reupload, which took much too long! It’s all safe again, repacked and tagged and tested for junk. Rush over and grab it, like, right now!

Huge throbbing erect thanks to David from the RE crew, John, Jimmy and the collective beasts of Armand Tansarian for the bonus tracks! They are beasts!

Keep an eye out for Primer 02, coming soon!
